THE BEAR 100

The Bear 100 was a race conceived by a veteran ultrarunner to give runners the opportunity to experience the high country straddling the Utah/Idaho border in the peak of the fall color season.  The last of the major mountain ultras, it allows runners to get in one more run before the snow flies, or to redeem themselves from a DNF earlier in the season.   It also is a qualifying run for the Hardrock 100.  Altitude and climbs are its major challenges, along with a longer night than experienced earlier in the year.  An advantage of the Bear 100 is that heat, while possible, is usually not a major issue.

Overview of the Run

The Bear 100 begins in Logan, Utah and follows the canyons and crests of the northern Wasatch as it traverses north into Idaho.  It eventually ends at Fish Haven, Idaho, on the shores of Bear Lake.

Entry Refunds Policy and Voluntarism

Because expenses in a race like the Bear are generally incurred early, if the race is cancelled because of conditions beyond our control, we reserve the right to retain the entire balance of the entry fee.  We are a nonprofit race and will endeavor to return a portion of those fees that we are able, but cannot guarantee such return.  Thank you for your understanding.

You may count time volunteering at an ultra.

Awards

All entrants will receive a beautiful long-sleeve t-shirt with a distinctive design.  Finishers receive an engraved plaque indicating the date of the event and their finish time and place.  They also receive a belt buckle reflective of their time: a Black Bear buckle for times between 30-35 hours, a Grizzly Bear buckle for times between 24-30 hours, and a Wolverine buckle for times under 24 hours.  Winners, in addition to the items above, will receive large custom-engraved pine plaques documenting their accomplishment.
